La Belle China, Wheeling Pottery, Wheeling West Va.
La Belle China Large Pitcher with Silver Plated Lid manufactured by La Belle China, Wheeling Pottery Company.
Wheeling
Pottery (Wheeling West VA) operated from 1879-1923, in 1910, the
company went in to receivership and afterward mainly manufactured
sanitary wares. In 1887 La Belle China was formed
under the same management as Wheeling Pottery. About two years later La
Belle and Wheeling Pottery operated as one company with different
departments.
Flow Blue transfer ware is the most sought after La Belle China / Wheeling Pottery at this writing. There are bidding frenzies on Ebay and prices can get pretty high.
Pictured next is a

Overall, a beautiful piece of Flow Blue china by La Belle / Wheeling Pottery.
Next we have one of the most popular La Belle China pieces that Wheeling Pottery manufactured. The Chocolate Pot was used by well to do Victorian families because the well to do were the only ones that could afford chocolate. In Jeffery Snyder`s "A Pocket Guide To Flow Blue", page 11, a chocolate pot like this is valued at $1200-1500. Several months ago, there was one for sale on an antique sales website for $1300.

Here is a fine example of American earthenware from late 1893-1910. It came from an estate in Richmond, VA.
This earthenware pitcher was manufactured between
1893 and 1910, as the makers mark on the bottom was in use during those
dates. Makers mark is La Belle China. In 1887 La Belle China was formed
under the same management as Wheeling Pottery. About two years later La
Belle and Wheeling Pottery operated as one company with different
departments.
The pitcher has normal crazing for its age, no cracks, but has one small chip under spout lip pictured in photo #2.
The inside of the pitcher is in excellent condition.
The
lid is silver plated, in good condition and works very well. The mark
on the inside of the lid reads "St. Louis Silver Co. Quadruple".
Please see photos for condition of pitcher.
Color is light beige or cream. There is gold gilding throughout the pitcher with minor gold loss for its age.
The
pitcher is 12" to top of finial. The width from spout to handle is 10.5
". It weighs about 5 pounds and it quite heavy and solid.
This pitcher is a fine example of American earthenware. After 1910 it became unprofitable to compete with Chinese imports. How sad.
The flow blue version of this mold sold for $575 on
ebay in 2011.
